Pink glass and silver scent bottle, souvenir of Porte de Menin Ypres (B)

Scent bottle made of thick blown glass of a delicate peach pink. It bears a silver plaque showing a building and the inscription “PORTE DE MENIN YPRES”. Round, long-drop blown glass stopper. Suspension ring. No marks. he Menin Gate is a World War I memorial in Ypres, Belgium, built over the original 17th-century city gate to commemorate nearly 55,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers from the Ypres Salient with unknown graves. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, it features a “Hall of Memory” with the names of the fallen inscribed on its walls and loggias. The memorial serves as the focal point for the daily Last Post ceremony, a moving tribute played every evening at 8 p.m. by the local fire brigade.
