Rock crystal, silver and enamels scant bottle with the crest of the Pallavicini family

Rock crystal (clear quartz) scent bottle carved into an hollowed teardrop shape. The silver cage is finely worked in silver openwork with floral or leaf motifs, enriched by lively polychrome enamel inserts (in this case blue and green). The edges are adorned with delicate enamel leaves, too. Hinged silver cap and inner cork stopper with silver loop. The top mount and the bottom medallionfeature what lokk like stylized crests which would typically denote the owner’s lineage. The Pallavicini family was one of the most powerful “papal nobility”families in italy (specifically Rome and Genoa). Part of a group of objects from Pallavicini family decent comng from their property in Minneapolis. The widow of Marquis Alfonso di Pallavicini, a member of the Hungarian diplomatic corps, remarried to W.F. Brooks on July 10, 1944, in New York.
